Daily Lessons from Life 19 March 2014 - Better to be a Dog than Pig in China!!??

MH370 Updates - Day 12. Some more theories emerged. Chinese cleared all their passengers from terrorism involvement. Maldive police investigating possible sighting of low flying big plane. Still HOPING.

"China hit by new flood of dead pigs in river - AFP  Wednesday, Mar 19, 2014

BEIJING - Chinese authorities have found 157 dead pigs in a river, state media said Wednesday, a year after 16,000 carcasses were discovered in Shanghai's main waterway, underscoring the country's food safety problems.

The dead porkers were recovered from the Gan river in Jiangxi, which supplies drinking water to the provincial capital Nanchang and is a tributary of the Yangtze, one of China's main waterways, the official news agency Xinhua said.

But tests showed that the tap water remains "safe for drinking", it said, citing Nanchang authorities.

A year ago China was stunned by the appearance of more than 16,000 dead pigs floating along parts of the Huangpu river which flows through Shanghai - one in a series of food-safety scandals in recent years.

No official explanation was given for the incident, which hugely embarrassed China's commercial hub.

Public concern about food safety is high and in his address to China's parliament this month Premier Li Keqiang pledged to "apply the strictest possible oversight, punishment and accountability to prevent and control food contamination and ensure that every bite of food we eat is safe"."

"Dog 'sold for $2.5 million' in China: report - AsiaOne PlushPic 19 March 2014

Beijing - A Tibetan mastiff puppy has been sold in China for almost $2 million, a report said Wednesday, in what could be the most expensive dog sale ever.

A property developer paid 12 million yuan (S$2.5 million) for the one-year-old golden-haired mastiff at a "luxury pet" fair Tuesday in the eastern province of Zhejiang, the Qianjiang Evening News reported.

"They have lion's blood and are top-of-the-range mastiff studs," the dog's breeder Zhang Gengyun was quoted as telling the paper, adding that another red-haired canine had sold for 6 million yuan."

I simply COULD NOT resist blogging on these 2 news!

Lessons for me are:

1. have men's humanity gone to the dog or pig? Or I should not insult the dogs and pigs as human being, being on the top rank of the animal kingdom, are supposed to be able to THINK rationality and respond to the environment they live in? Maybe they have EVOLVED to such an advance stage that DOG, cute looking one too, is worth US$2.5m each!;

2. just like the ever present annual haze created by the 'burned and slashed' method in some part of Indonesia annually, is this 'dead pigs flow down the river' is going to be an annual affair too? I hope not! Human being's thinking of 'benefits and costs' hopefully do not stop there but extend to: morality, integrity, responsibility, etc to themselves and their future generation. Money money money are NOT the only thing that make life goes round and round. Living human being do. If foods are poisoned, and then consumed by human, we don't have many living human being left. It is most ironical that the ones who kill human being is another human being. A human being that is NOT fighting for his or her last meals but one wanting to have MORE MONEY to eat 'luxurious foods' or living in 'grandiose mansions' or whatever things material!;

3. Funny that I just met someone who came back from Zhangshu. I wondered how would he feel or think about this incident? For a person who travel to China often, my take is: I will eat what my host and fellow diners eat when I am there. God helps me. And since I am not particularly religious, I cannot pray but can just hope that whatever I am eating is good enough for my fellow diners - the locals - is good enough for me! :-)

Maybe I should be a dog in China? p/s: If a 'dog' has a name tag, it will probably see 'god' in the mirror! LOL!!
