"Guy who drives Porsche calls Singaporeans who take public transport
'poor' - STOMPer Michael came across a facebook post by a guy who labeled commuters on
public transport as 'poor'.
The man apparently had to take public
transport with his son after his car was sent to the workshop.
The man
posted a photo of his son on an MRT train with the caption: 'Daddy, where is
your car & who are all these poor people?'
In another facebook post,
the man uploaded a photo of his sports car and wrote: 'Normal service can
resume, once I have washed the stench of public transport off
me.'
Michael says:
"Are people who commute on public transport
poor?
"One person obviously thinks so. "He posted pictures of his child,
while commenting about people being poor.
"In a separate post, he
commented about the 'stench' of public transport, or is he referring to the
people who commute on public transport?" "
Apparently this guy is a British expat and is married to a former Miss Singapore had just issued an apology for his insensitive remarks and asked for another chance to be accepted in Singapore as well as to make make the 'numerous threats, including death threats' and the abuses on him, his 5-year old son and his family online go-away.
Lessons for me are:
1. if you are a bigot, even if you are a misunderstood one, just keep your opinions to yourself and OFFLINE. Of course, if you are a bigot, your behaviours will show up somehow no matter how well and how hard to try to hide it;
2. it is ok that you are rich. This is especially so if you made the fortune and luck yourself. It is commendable actually. At the same time, there is no need to belittle others to show that you are rich. Only the insecure rich will need to do that. The truly rich will have no time nor any need to do that as their lifestyles would have revealed how rich they are. Some even donated millions to charitable causes without a blink of the eyes! e.g. Sir Run Run Shaw is one such rich person;
3. as for the stress on his 5-year old son and his family, I am not too sure. The 5-year old boy probably won't know what is going on. Even if he does, at least he know it was the stupid action by his dad that caused him this stress. He will forget. The lasting trauma will be those that are inflicted on a long term and repeated basis like being ignored or mistreated at home.
Now that he has 'apologised', even though some critics are asking if he did it because of the death threats or that he is genuinely remorseful, let it goes. Until the next time?
