Daily Lessons from Life 12 November 2013 - NEA to implement integrated rodent management plan for Sennett Estate

"NEA to implement integrated rodent management plan for Sennett Estate - CNA 12 November 2013

SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency (NEA) will be implementing an integrated rodent management plan for Sennett Estate in Potong Pasir that will involve the residents and other stakeholders.

Minister for Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan said this in a written reply to a parliamentary question by MP for Potong Pasir, Sitoh Yih Pin.

The plan includes surveillance to identify the source and location of the rodent infestation, and intensive control measures such as trapping.

There will also be intensified checks and enforcement on poor refuse management in construction sites and eating establishments.

Dr Balakrishnan said that the NEA has been taking active steps to address the rodent activity in Potong Pasir since August 2013.
The NEA had carried out intensive checks on the refuse management and housekeeping practices of the food shops and construction sites in the area, and placed rodent traps around the area.
Dr Balakrishnan added that defects such as crevices in drains and on the ground are being repaired so that rodents cannot harbour there."

Interesting to see this issue being raised in the parliament. I thought I saw some of them around my estate but did not realise that it is quite prevalent!

Lessons for me are:

1. are we 1st world or 3rd world country seriously?;

2. OK. Just ben fastitious. We are definitely 1st world country in many aspects. This rodent infestation issue only happened in a 1st world country with too much foods around. Yes?;

3. regardless of why there are rodents here and there, the fact that the MP and NEA are joining hands to tackle the issue is great. I am sure when the scheme proved effective, many other HDB estates and the private estates around the country will benefit from replicating the measures adopted here.

Good ridden!!
