Daily Lessons from Life 17 October 2013 - Disturbing Human Behaviors?
"Bosses drive 15 minutes to dump worker's body - The New Paper Oct 17, 2013
They took his broken body, changed his clothes, loaded him onto a truck and then drove him to Upper Circular Road, where they dumped him.
And by the time paramedics found the migrant worker, shoeless and slumped in a back alley, he was dead.
This was the sad and shocking end of the worker, believed to be a Myanmar national.
Police said three men have since been arrested and are now assisting with investigations.
The New Paper learnt that the dead man had been moonlighting as a painter at a linkway between VivoCity and HarbourFront Centre.
The top of the linkway is about three storeys high. A crane is believed to have been used at the site, where work took place only after the malls were shut for the night.
TNP understands that the worker had fallen on Oct 6 while working at the site. He was badly injured.
But instead of calling for help, his supervisors loaded him onto a truck and drove 15 minutes to Upper Circular Road The road, flanked by shophouses, offices and serviced apartments, is usually quiet."
This is happening in our Little Red Dot. A first world nation by our government, and supposedly the world, reckoning!
Lessons for me are:
1. it is chilling, down right disturbing to learn that a human being can ignore the injured fellow human being to the point of just dumping his broken body in a back alley for dead! What else were in the culprits' minds? Surely not some miracles that some good Samaritans will appear in the 'usually quiet back alley' and bring the injured to the hospital or, better still, a medical doctor that happened to walk past that 'usually quiet back alley'!!
It is sickening and very very disturbing to learn that someone actually left someone else to die. In our first world nation!!;
2. it is very important to know who are these culprits as it is easy to be distorted and fanned up emotion by painting it as a heartless Singaporean employers 'blatantly' 'killed' a migrant worker. If the culprits are Singaporeans, let it be known. If they are 'new Singaporeans' let it be known too. If they are 'foreign employers' in Singapore, let it be known too;
3. having said that, the most critical and important thing to do is to help the family of the dead migrant worker as well as bringing to justice those who were responsible for dumping him and leaving for dead. Justice must be served and be served with the most severity of punishment. Will it be for 'manslaughter' or 'murder'? Hopefully nothing less than one of these 2 charges. The human kind must be give the hope that such acts are rare and when it did happen, 110% efforts will be made to make sure that no one else in their sane mind will try it again, ever!
Peace to the dead. Justice be served. And let's reflect on: why would a fellow human being did what the culprits had done?
