Daily Lessons from Life 22 September 2013 - Meaningful Lives and Senseless Killing!?

2 interesting but contrasting news headlines to ponder over. 1. The Opposition MP Ms Sylvia Lim and ex-actor Mr Xie Shaoguang embracing life in very different way; and 2. the cowardice murdering of innocent people, non-believers according to what I heard on BBC News, by some Islamist attackers in a mall in Nairobi, Kenyan. 1. Meaningful lives Ms Lim is for meaningful life. Meaningful to her means: making a positive impact on helping the less fortunate and the people who have no voice in the political process. Mr Xie acts out his definition of meaningful life as: be at peace with yourself and help others who need help and not be conscious of your appearance! What Ms Lim and her WP colleagues had achieved in the last 12 years are definitely something to be admired. They need to continue to work hard if they believe that the ruling government needs to be pushed and challenged to keep them honest and really work for the good of the majority of the citizens. For Mr Xie, his is an easier task comparatively as all he needs to convince is himself. That finding enlightenment in Buddhism is what is best for him. He has no voters to try to educate and win over every 4-5 years. He just need to be true to his belief and he will be alright! What is meaningful life to me? To be a good Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend in private; and to be a true practitioner of the 7e Way of Leaders in public. 2. Senseless Killing by 'Murderers hiding behind the veil of Religion' The murderers supposed said that the attack was targeted at non-believers of Muslim as all Muslim hostages were released almost immediately. Since when does a religion preaches that going to a shopping mall where ordinary people are going about the normal capitalist society do on a weekend SHOULD BE KILLED in order to SPREAD the gospel truth of THAT RELIGION? In which religious God or Gods' name(s) can you justify this bloody senseless killing? Is this the murderers' meaning of 'meaningful life'? To kill those who do not professed the same religions belief so that their 'god or gods' will look favourably on them when they die and, God forbid, go to 'heaven'? I find this simply too hypocritical. No religion ask the followers to go out there to kill non-believers just like that. If there is such a claim, that religion is NOT a religion. Period. No 'if' or 'but' about it!!
