Daily Lessons from Life 07 September 2013 - 3 of a Kind!!
"President Tony Tan meets Jason Chee, Aishah Samad and Nick Vujicic - AsiaOne Sep 07, 2013
SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam met with Jason Chee, Aishah Samad and Nick Vujicic at the Istana on Saturday and commended them for their resilience and positive outlook in overcoming difficulties and being an inspiration to others.
In a Facebook post, President Tan said: "I met with Jason Chee, Aishah Samad and Nick Vujicic this morning at the Istana. In spite their physical limitations, they chose to focus on what they can do instead of what they cannot do. I was deeply touched by their resilience, enthusiasm for life, and passion in pursuing their dreams and in helping others."
Mr Chee was involved in an accident in Dec 2012 that severed both his legs and his left arm.
Mr Vujicic, a motivational speaker, was born without limbs.
Ms Samad, a 2003 SEA Games shooting bronze medallist, suffered from a severe bacterial infection which eventually left to the amputation of her arms and legs."
I have written about Ms Aishah and Jason in recent past. About their courage and resilience. They are two of a kind. And now adds Nick, a renowned motivational speaker from Australia, to make it 3 of a kind!
Lessons for me are:
1. there is no doubt their lives are very different from us. There is no doubt many a times we just marveled in total astonishment how did they do it? how could they continue living and living well when many normal and able bodied and mind people failed to do so? Well, they have their ups and downs in the journey. It is natural. It just need that something extra to pull themselves up after each down period!;
2. I have not seen Nick in person but I have watch some of his videos. Indeed he is a powerful speaker. Genuine and confident. Great to learn that he got married and became a father recently. No matter how resilience one may be, it is always great to have some soul-mates, family members and friends to support you along the journey. I won't describe it as 'a struggle' but definitely a challenge to fight the battle alone. So, some help, any help are welcome!;
3. I am not sure what Aishah and Jason will be doing as they recovered, or continued to recover, from the terrible lemons life thrown at them. Maybe they can become Singapore's Nick. Maybe they can become motivational speakers of their own style and delivery. Maybe they can inspire and continue to inspire many Singaporeans and residents of Singapore that in Singapore, we have our own Nick!
My salutes to these 3 remarkable people. The odds and challenges they have overcome are formidable and seemingly impossible to some. Yet, they have overcome! May the inspiring journey continue forever.
