Daily Lessons from Life 31 August 2013 - Record 21 billionaires on Forbes S'pore rich list

Last day of August 2013. 8/12th of the year is gone! 4 more months to go!! Hope I have kept to some of the 2013 resolutions. :-) "Record 21 billionaires on Forbes S'pore rich list - AsiaOne Aug 29, 2013 SINGAPORE – Singapore's richest just got richer. According to the 2013 Forbes Singapore 50 Richest list, there are now 21 billionaires among the wealthiest in the city-state, up from 16 the previous year. The combined net wealth of Singapore’s 50 richest in 2013 is $102 billion." Congratulation to these folks. They are RICH for sure. Lessons for me are: 1. quite interesting to note many accumulated their immense wealth in properties. I personally belief is that one of the primary responsibilities of government to make sure that most ordinary people can afford to own a public housing unit. If that fundamental objective is achieved, I guessed private and investment properties are free game; 2. Singapore's political stability and security are attractive to some of the regional folks to migrate here and bring with them their millions and billions. This may be so for now thought for a few fleeting seconds or months, the picture was not so rosy. The consecutive decline in the popular votes % over the last 2 GEs, the 2 defeats suffered by the ruling party, PAP, and the many vocal dissatisfaction expressed by some sections of the society did cause some worries for some observers. BUT, it seems that the ruling party has responded to the 'rebuke' and are taking more seriously the many issues highlighted by many ordinary Singaporeans for many years; 3. great to have richer and richer people in the material sense. Hopefully their wealth will, and I am sure some are already doing it, be employed to create more goods. I am sure their stories will inspire more people to seek wealth. In the good way, for a good purpose.
