Daily Lessons from Life 24 May 2013 - Supervisor said it was 'tough love'

"Supervisor said it was 'tough love' - The New Paper May 24, 2013 SINGAPORE - He claimed he saw himself in the younger co-worker, and that he was dishing out tough love when he hit him several times on the cheek. "I treated him like a little brother, I wanted to teach him," the man was overheard saying to the victim's parents when they confronted him, Lianhe Wanbao reported." When someone is SICKED, there is no way to talk reason with him if what he said to the victim's parent is true. Lessons for me are: 1. this man is very very sicked! He needs help!; 2. this man needs a lot of TOUGH LOVE. Seriously. Sicked and need tough love. Lots of it; 3. as for the victim, many negative things had been said about him. I am not sure what caused him not to, or only very mildly, defended his right as an intern and as a human being. One version mentioned that he was concerned about the impact to his bully's family if his bully's acts were reported to the Ministry of labour, his university or placement agent, and the police. This is very kind of him if it is the truth. Yet at the same time it is a misplaced kindness. Many also questioned his courage assuming he does know his rights as an intern but just submitted meekly to this bully for more than a year. We never know what conditioned the victim to behave the way he has acted. Suffice to say he has hopefully walked out of this nightmare with his courage, dignity, self-worth and basic rights as a respectable human being back. 'Tough love'!! How sick can the bully be!!!!
