Was in Shanghai from 26 August night till 29 August and then to Taipei till 01 September 2012. Could not access to blog while in Shanghai and had too much to handle while in Taipei. So, here I am doing some catch up! Not good but that will do for now!!
1. Apple vs. Samsung Legal Suits
Interestingly Apple won BIG in the USA with the jurors TELLING Samsung to pay US$1.05B as punishment for infringing upon Apple's IP and Apple DID NOT infringe any of Samsung's IPs.
In South Korea, a similar suit, though smaller in scale supposedly, resulted in the judge (without the jury favoured by the USA system) saying BOTH companies infringed each others' IPs.
In Japan, the court simply said Samsung DID NOT infringe on Apple's IP!
These 3 cases showed that Justice is NOT FAIR for ALL? That nationalism takes precedence? Or that the Americans are more biased that the South Koreans and the Japaneses?
Personally I feel that, from a layman without technical and legal expertise to speak of, the Patent Office of the USA and all around the world are some messed up that folks with lots of money can 'bully' the small innovative ones into submission or destruction!
2. Sex and Human Being
A supposedly young lad from a wealthy family in Taiwan recorded his sexual encounters with tens of celebrities and what-not exposed to the press. He supposedly drugged them and did these lustful acts without their consents. He was on the run for a few days or weeks and turned himself in eventually with a plead of NOT GUILTY as the sexual encounters are consensual ones!
Sexual desire is natural for the human being. At the same time, one does wonder why some are so focused on it that he or she would do some incredibly 'dangerous and unbelievable' things!
It is a field day in Taiwan on this scandal. One simply has to wait for the whole saga to unfold as this lustful young man goes on trial over the next few weeks and months!
3. Meeting long time friends in Taipei on this trip is a highlight for me as I have not been to Taipei for more than a year since my last visit. Great to meet up with long time friends though some of them were so busy we did not manage to meet. For those whom I did meet, we had a good time and I am truly grateful for their continued friendship.
I also took the chance to jog around Taipei 101, the tallest building in Taiwan, at around 11 p.m. after some drink and heavy eating! Got to burn them off!!
4. It is official! The USA Presidential election race if ON!! The Mick vs. Barrack Show is on! Let's see who will come up victorious in November 2012.
5. More earthquakes around the world and nearer to home in South East Asia in Indonesia and the Philippines. Series of typhoons swept North East Asia and the Philippines over the last few weeks creating flooding and destruction. Again, I wondered if Mother Earth can take any more blows before she cracks up! It makes for interesting conversation piece at every coffee shops where naval gazing, introspecting folks will do forever, until she does crack up! LOL!!
Another wonderful week to look forward to ...
