Daily Lessons from Life 13 August 2012 - 2 Incidents in Parliament

2 incidents in Parliament today that caught my eyes.

1. Law Minister clarifying how the famous Dr Wof-Wof (a famous plastic surgeon) was charged and fined instead of a more serious charge and potential a jail term as sentence.

It is interesting to listen, observe and learn that the AGC has acted correctly based on the facts of the cast to charge Dr Wof-Wof on the charges as levied and that he was not favoured by the prosecutorial system.

The bit about oppositional politic is lost on me as this case did generate a lot of public discussion and the AGC even took the unprecedented action of issuing a statement to assert why it did what it had done. The integrity of the prosecutorial system is in tact as far as they are concerned.

Good use of parliament time to question and clarify. Though I am not sure Dr Wof-Wof enjoys the free publicity or not.

2. DMP Tharman's speaking on the need to tighten up the government tender procurement process in the light of recent, almost monthly, procurement challenges of different shades and shapes.

I thought he was very calm about it and acknowledged that there is a need to buck up and do a better job of 'using' the public money. It is also nice to note that he mentioned that the Finance Ministry, one of the ministries he is directly in charge as well, is free of such issues.

He mentioned about the competency of handling such tender procurement process and that need to work on as well.

Overall I think he presented a balance view with not too much defending. This is commendable.

The Parliament time is better used in this case, I think.
