Daily Lessons from Life 30 June 2012 - Hong Kong reporter asks Hu about Tienanmen, briefly held

Oh yeah. HALF YEAR is GONE!! A quick review of my progress on my 2012 Resolutions:

1. weight management - still a struggle. Floating above 75kg more often than NOT! Highest was 79kg!! Need to double my effort by the annual charity marathon on 1st Sunday of December!;

2. work - being reasonable busy spread among BMC, Ken Blanchard (with a few new clients and new programs - one tested my integrity and tenacity to keep to excellence!) and Tricor. Am thankful for these works;

3. volunteer work - continue to do as many sessions for MCYS PSB VPO and HPB HAN work. Enjoying all of these sessions and making new like-minded friends in the HAN work;

4. Investment front - continue to be a lousy investor! Suffering becomes less painful due to numbness!! HELP!!;

5. Family - doing reasonably well. Another aspect of life to be most thankful for.

"Hong Kong reporter asks Hu about Tienanmen, briefly held - AFP Jun 30, 2012

HONG KONG - A Hong Kong journalist was briefly detained Saturday after he asked Chinese President Hu Jintao a question about the 1989 Tienanmen Square crackdown, sparking criticism from a media group.

The reporter for the Apple Daily, known for its anti-Beijing stance, asked the question as Hu was touring the site of a future cruise ship terminal on the second day of his visit to the southern Chinese territory.

"President Hu, Hong Kong people want to see justice for June 4. Did you hear that?" journalist Rex Hon shouted repeatedly at Hu from behind the security cordon, referring to the 1989 crackdown, before he was briefly detained by security personnel.

A minor scuffle later broke out when fellow journalists surrounded a policeman and demanded an explanation about Hon's detention.

The incident prompted criticism from the Hong Kong Journalists Association, which vowed to lodge an official complaint over the incident. "We protest the police action. The journalist was just doing his job. Asking a question does not pose any security threats," the association's chairwoman Mak Yin-ting told AFP.

"We ask the local police to stop this kind of... mainland policing in Hong Kong," she said.

Over two decades later, Beijing still considers the incident a "counter revolutionary rebellion" and has refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing or consider compensation for those killed.

Hu's three-day schedule in Hong Kong has been kept under wraps, apparently due to security concerns, apart from his attendance at a Saturday's concert and Sunday's inauguration for the city's new leader."

A most intriguing situation. Unique. Only exists in China!

Lessons for me are:

1. those who were 'wronged' in the Tienanmen incident will forever be asking for acknowledgment and wrong doing by those in authorities then;

2. those in authorities and had to make a decision on what to do with the raging emotion at the Tienanmen will forever be asked why did they do what they had done?

Will there ever be a definitive answer that the crack-down, that it DID happened was undeniable as it was shown around the world on CNN live! in the initial stages, is the RIGHT thing to do or not? I don't think so.

It ALL depends on what is your perspective? Also could you have foreseen what will become of China since then IF the crack-down was not executed?

Since NO ONE can foresee the future, none of us will be wiser if today's China is better or worst without that crack-down.

Even when we look at it TODAY, there are still some that say China is better and some say that China is worst than then.

I shall rest my case here!

3. the ultimate test for the Hong Kongers are: are they still enjoying the British-style, not sustainable in my opinion, freedom of speeches unobstructed! Unlikely as such is NOT the style of the Chinese government - at least NOT at this stage of its political development!!
