"Toolkit to help parents raise healthy children - CNA 23 May 2012
SINGAPORE : Parents in Singapore now have something to look forward to - a resource toolkit to help them shape the health of their kids.
Launched by Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor at K K Women's & Children's Hospital on Wednesday, it aims to help parents maintain healthy pregnancies and raise healthy children. The tool kit was developed by the Health Promotion Board (HPB).
It worked with nine hospitals.It is based on research showing that a person's well-being can be influenced from foetal days. Besides a one-stop resource guide, workshops are also conducted to educate parents in areas like preparing healthy food for their children.
HPB's chief executive, Ang Hak Seng, said eating habits in babies play a huge part in creating a healthy lifestyle. He said: "When we introduce solid foods to the babies, at the workshop for the mothers, we are actually educating the mothers to prepare baby food without salt, sugar and oil. And by doing so, the baby will have less or no reliance on this for taste.""
Was expecting the parenting skills type of things but guessed it is important to make sure the kids are healthy physically!
Lessons for me are:
1. good go start the parents on how to raise healthy babies;
2. next thing is to make sure that they are also providing how to raise healthy kids with proper parenting skills;
3. finally keep providing them the feedback on how they are doing until the kids develop good independent thinking and decision making in life!
Healthy babies, healthy kids and good independent human being!
