Forget about the headlines.
Just a few comments on the going on the last few days that caught my eyes:
1. the 2 top civil servants being investigated by CPIB
It emerged that a 'tall, pretty and vivocious' IT executive were involved with both men. Not sure what she was involved in with those 2 men. Let's wait though there are plenty of suggestions in the media and cyberspace! What can 2 men and a woman (married and with 2 kids and a hubby) do anyway!
If it is true, it really fits the Chinese saying: men (heroes) cannot get past beauty.
2. had a CNY dinner with ex-colleagues from my 1st job
Wonderful to meet up with them. A successful group of people too. Dinning at one of the golf clubs in Singapore. Many also voiced their disapproval of the 'high pay package' of the Ministers. So, even the rich are no longer happy with the performance of the government. May be because of the pay package the Ministers are commanding.
So, the truth is: if you ask for high pay, you better be held accountable for it. No hiding.
Most importantly, we have a good time catching up with each others. Damned the politics - for now.
3. stepped on a discarded envelop in the lift. I wondered what went through the mind of the person who did that? Or what did not go through the mind!!
If Singapore is a 1st world nation, as claimed by our government, no one will be responsible for throwing any litter. Of course, it will be unfair to say that since I do not live in an exclusive area where the rich and famous live. So, maybe this is how the general populace behaves. Unthinking and has no civil mindedness at all!
If so, it is still sad. A developed nation cannot count economic prosperity as its ONLY achievement. Yes?
4. Fury and controversy at a bonus just below 1m British Pound in UK
The RBS, a bank that was rescued by the UK government using taxpayers' money, and now 82% owned by the state announced a bonus of 900+ British Pound to its CEO and everyone are UNHAPPY, and some, angry!
The labour unionists, the opposition party members, and some observers said that the anger and disbelief are understandable especially when the same CEO cut thousands of jobs along the way.
This pay thing is really ugly. I just wonder when will men, and women, find a better way to measure a man, and a woman, worth besides pay. A long way off ... But we need to continue trying...
