Daily Lessons from Life 15 May 2011 - IMF chief charged with sex assault, rape attempt

"IMF chief charged with sex assault, rape attempt - AP 15 May 2011

NEW YORK - IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, widely expected to run for the French presidency next year, was charged Sunday with the sexual assault and attempted rape of a chambermaid at a New York hotel, police said.

The charges included "criminal sexual act, unlawful emprisonment, attempted rape" and "assaulting a 32-year-old girl in a hotel room," Ryan Sesa, a police deputy spokesman, told reporters.

Strauss-Kahn, a 62-year-old Socialist who had been leading French opinion polls for the 2012 elections, was escorted off an Air France flight Saturday just minutes before it was to leave John F. Kennedy International Airport, officials said.

"We took him into custody and we handed him over to the New York City police department," an official for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey told AFP on condition of anonymity."

Let's leave MM Lee and SM Goh's resignation alone and looked at this interesting development. What was he thinking of, if he indeed did what he had done or being questioned?

Lessons for me, if he did what he had done, are:

1. a moment of insanity? it can strike anyone? Maybe not. Hopefully not. If we can get more information on what trigger this will be good basis to begin to understand;

2. law enforcement authority being decisive and without fear or favor is important. In another country, maybe the police might not have acted so decisively and swiftly?;

3. the employer of the alleged assault victim acted decisively too to support the 'weaker' party of this crime. The sense of justice for all regardless of position in the hiraechy!

I wonder what he has to say now?
