Daily Lessons from Life 17-18 March 2011 - More about Japan Disaster and More ...

I am really stretching myself thin over the last few days as I worked till 2 a.m. for a few nights! Not an ideal situation but necessary if I want to keep to my legendary 'quick turnaround' time! LOL!!

Still, I think it is insane and I MUST moderate and be more humble NOT to cling to 'quick turnaround time' at all time!!

OK. Something more serious.

1. Japan Nuclear Disaster ...

Interesting to note from various and diverse news channels while in Bangkok that each has a 'skewed' angle to look at the response of the Japanese government on this unfolding disaster.

China - criticized the 'secretive' manner of how it released the development in the crippled nuclear power plant at Fukushima. How it was too slow in getting water to the burning fuel rods, how it was too slow in getting supplies to the trapped people in the earthquake and tsunami hit area, etc.

Russia - sharing their Chernobyl experiences and praised the Japaneses responses thus far.

USA - not very specific it sees. More of a 'wait and see' and hope for the best. Though some said the Japanese government turned down their offer to help early on!

HOWEVER, there was NO divergence in how these news channels viewed the response of the Japanese people though - in awe at their staidness and civil mindedness.

2. NEW SUBJECT - Libya

Libya - face-off and show-down. Brutal oppression by Gaddafi's army on the 'democracy seeking' rebels. UN sprung into actions to protect the 'civilians of Libya'.

Again, the Chinese and Russian said: don't interfere with a nation's domestic affairs while the French/American and UK said: no government can just kill its civilians!!

Who is right? Or is that such thing as 'who is right' in such a political situation?

May those who want democracy and wiling to die for it get what they want. At the same time, those that wanted peaceful and orderly transition from 'benign' dictatorship to 'purposeful democratic rule seek by educated voters and enlightened politicians' realized they have to work harder for it!!

Happy TGIF and I look forward to a good rest over the coming weekend!
