Daily Lessons from Life 02 December 2010 - Motorist kills accident victim to avoid complications

"Thu, Dec 02, 2010 The Daily Chilli - Motorist kills accident victim to avoid complications

An undergraduate stabbed to death a young mother that he knocked down in an accident in Xi'an, China.

Yao Jiaxin (above), a 21-year-old student of Xi'an Conservatory of Music, knocked down cyclist Zhang Miao (above, inset) with his car around 11 pm on Oct 20. When he saw Zhang staring at him and his number plate, Yao took out a knife and stabbed her eight times.

He then injured a man and another woman in a hurry to flee the scene, police said at a press conference on Monday.

Yao was arrested on Oct 22, on suspicion of murder. He admitted to killing the victim simply because he feared the woman would be 'hard to deal with'.

People feared that he might be let off lightly as his parents are rich and have good connection! This fear is fueled by similar cases in other parts of the China that saw no proper closure when the rich and powerful people killed someone in road accidents, deliberately!"

It is quite bizarra for me to contemplate why would this young man of music killed the injured cyclist when the crime of murder is surely much more severe than a motor accident! What come be going through his mind when he drew the knife and stabbed her 8 times?

Lessons for me are:

1. being educated does not mean the person is a decent person! Being musically inclined does not mean a murderer not made! It is the most dreadful fate to be confronted with well educated crooks and murderers. It simply gets people to ponder what might have gone wrong with the educating of such people. Nature or nurture?;

2. could the other similar cases that have no proper closure emboldened the future culprits to continue to take laws into their hands and mete out injustice!! Are the lives of poor or poorer people much less valued than the rich and wealthy - in China? I am sure many more will say: 'NO!' to this 'stupid' question. All men are created equal. All human being are some one's son and daughter, spouses, boyfriend or girlfriend. They are all precious and unique!!;

3. while justice must be served, it will be interesting to dig deep into this 'murderer's mind' on what motivated him to kill the injured cyclist. Is it the truism that when you killed someone in a motor accident, you just need to pay a 'comfort' money to the decease's family, that convinced him that it is better to kill her than not? Was his mind warp? Where did he get the knife from unless he always has one with him always?

May this case get solved properly and closure provided. Rest in peace to the deceased and condolences to the family.

This is NOT China. Maybe this is just a small place in Xian, China. Like other places with similar cases in China. Such injustice cannot go on forever. As truth always triumph at the end. Keep the faith. Prosecute the culprit and let the justice process runs its natural course. You pay for the crime you committed!
