"Indian family arrested over alleged child sacrifice: police - Wed, Nov 24, 2010 AFP
RAIPUR - Indian police said Wednesday they had arrested a witchdoctor and his family over the alleged sacrifice of a two-year-old boy in an impoverished tribal area.
The parents of the child alerted police on Tuesday after he went missing while playing on the street in the Durg district of the central state of Chhattisgarh, about 45 kilometres (30 miles) from state capital Raipur.
'The witchdoctor, his wife and three children were arrested yesterday after the bloodied body of the child was recovered from their worship place along with the knife used for the crime,' district police chief Amit Kumar told AFP."
Besides this horrifying news. The death of more than 450 Cambodians in the Water Festival was also another tragic news. Looks like I am going to comment on death this time!
Lessons for me are:
1. we all have to go when we were 1st born. Hopefully we all get to choose how we leave this earth. Regardless of your religious affiliation, everyone must have a good death. For the boy and the many young Cambodians who died in the news, it definitely was not their choices!;
2. it is inconceivable that there are still people who believed in human sacrifice! To save life you must kill life or worse, just to get rich? For the religious folks, it must be the devil's work for some people to have such devilish mind and bloody thirsty ruthless brutality. Maybe India is too big a country. Maybe Mother Earth has too many people inhabiting it to say that all are in the modern age and knows that you cannot kill someone to bring another human being back from death!;
3. as for the kids that died in the stampede, may they rest in peace even if it was the last thing they had in mind when they went out to enjoy themselves and be merry. The parents will be devastated as accidental death is the least unexpected and had the biggest impact on the people left behind! Hopefully the organizers and the crowd will learn from this catastrophe and prevent any recurrence from ever happened again!
p/s: In the meantime, Liu Xiang, the ex-World Champion, Olympic Champion, and World Recorder holder of the 110m Hurdles successfully defended his Asian Game crown for the 3rd time today in Guangzhou. It has been a painful and long road to recovery after his disastrous pulled out from the Beijing Olympic Game in 2008 with an Achilles tendon injury when a billion people's hope rested on his broad shoulders. This is his best time this year and I am glad for him as he was the 1st Asian to break the myth and psychological barrier that only the Black athletes can excel in the track event! It was significant. It was historic. I wish him all the best in the next 2 pivotal years - 2011 World Championship and 2012 Olympic.
