Daily Lessions from Life - He had videos of girls as young as 6

Edvantage - He had videos of girls as young as 6: CNA 21 November 2010

"AN introvert, Jonathan Wong's perversion escaped everyone's attention.

Until fellow students at his university realised the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) scholar had been downloading child pornography.
Now, besides a possible jail sentence, Wong, 23, may well lose his scholarship. Wong had downloaded the material in a student hall at the University of York where he is an undergraduate.

He pleaded guilty to 17 charges of making a child pornography video between July 15, 2008, and March 19 this year.

The prosecutor office in Yorkshire said his sentence can range from a community-based penalty to a maximum of 10 years in jail."

I commented on this on my blog last Friday as I was not sure how true the news were then. My concerns were focused on possible mistaken identity taken as real that can ruin a person's reputation in the speed of uploading comments about him.

Now that it has been confirmed that he was indeed a MOE scholar, a student, and was responsible for the alleged crimes, it is a sad and disturbing picture.

Lessons for me are:

1. still be careful when you are commenting on something controversial about someone you had know and only heard about what he or she had done;

2. the young man needs help besides the just sentences that he will be facing in UK. It is always disturbing and perplexing to many why would a scholar, a young man with a bright mind is sucked into such a, liked some had described, perversion. Watching child porn is bad enough and he actually made one!!;

3. I hope his parents get some help too as it is not an easy piece of news to learn, especially if they had all along being unaware!

May he find help. May his habit has a cure somehow. If not, it will waste his life away. So young and so useless??

p/s: I went for another 12km jog around the stadium. Barely enough for the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore on 05 Decmber 2010 but that will do for now!! :-)
