Daily Lessons from Life 27-31 October 2010

Yes. I did not write from 27-30 October 2010 as I was not able to while in HCM City, Vietnam after successfully updated the blog on 26 October 2010. It seems that the blogger site is also blocked in Vietnam, like in China!!??

Anyway, a quick wrap of the last few days and to conclude the month of October 2010!

1. Obama's mid-term election challenge

It seems that he is facing a lot of unhappy, or to be more precise, disappointed, supporters who voted for his historic election 2 years ago for the 1st time! Disappointed as the economy has not really improved to the stage where employment is abundant! The bankers who were primarily responsible for the mess, coupled with the ignorance of the American consumers - false and real - are getting back their multi billion dollar bonuses!

The truth is he has NOT being honest with his people. To expect growth in such a mess is UNREALISTIC!! I had said it before and I will say it again: Do not expect growth in quantitative term but in qualitative term. Stop the banks from playing the market. Get the employers to hire more people at a lower wage so that eventually the cost of things and services will drop off so that at lower wages, people can still live relatively well!

This will NOT happened as long as some powerful people believed that USA can print (money) its way of out trouble.

2. Singapore coming General Election and the "Lost" Singaporeans

At the NTU Ministerial Dialogue recently, the SM Goh was quoted as saying: if Singaporeans are not sure what to fight and defend for, he will wonder why is he doing here trying to help people who are not sure what they are fighting for!

If this report is true, it is a bit unfortunate as the question he should be asking is: why are the Singaporeans who used to know what and for whom they are fighting for are at a loss now? So that he can take action to find out the WHY instead of saying what he had, supposedly, said!

3. End of October 2010!

It is the last day of October 2010. 2010 has only 2 more months to go. Our youngest are taking her GCE 'O' Level examination since 25 October 2010. She is trying her best to handle it. Many other students around the country are doing the same examination. It will be over by the middle of next month. Another month later, many will be get their results. Many have said it is the one that will determine their life! Many had said it. Many, actually, realized that it was but just a station in their life. Their life is more than one station. There are many more stations in life. They can look forward to them. Be it in continuing their education or wherever life takes them to. It is difficult for them to realize it. The adults will have to continue to encourage them if there were disappointments 1 month or 2 down the road!

Finally, it is 5-week to go before the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore on 5 December 2010. The full marathon has a new route and so do the half-marathon and the 10km race. It is much more commercialized than the past events. While I don't particular like it, it is the way to go in Singapore. Any big event, and this one is as big as it comes with 60,000 participants, must produce some benefits for the sponsors while promoting healthy lifestyle as well.
