Daily Lessons from Life 19 July 2010 - Different Perspectives

I am in Ho Chih Ming (HCM) City, Vietnam, for a workshop delivery from today till Thursday 22 July 2010.

As I watch the cable TV programs in the hotel room, I realized that it is probably a mistake NOT to subscribe to the Chinese/Mandarin News Channel programs as I found them to be quite interesting and refreshing! I am so used to the staple of business news from CNN, CNBC, BBC, etc and forgot that the Chinese in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mainland China probably have so GOOD perspectives on what is happening in China and East Asia!!

Lessons for me are:

1. human beings are creature of habits! We need to be aware of the risk of being too comfortable with the existing environment, how we get our information, how we process them, etc. Looking at different programs or writing or whatever is the key to gaining different perspective!;

2. after the awareness, we must then take actions to make the shift a reality. i.e. go subscribe the Chinese/Mandarin News Channel. It will be a challenge for me as I don't really want to do that. So, I will need to go for the next alternative. i.e. go read the Chinese/Mandarin business websites that are freely available!;

3. I learned while watching the Chinese/Mandarin business news report that they do have very good in-depth analysis of the going on in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Some of their perspectives are vey different from the Western analysts' points of views. This is where I am challenged to think and evaluation which ones are 'correct' and 'which ones to combine'. It is fun doing this and helped me grow too!

May I be reminded constantly that I not to watch out for being 'too comfortable' and 'fixed' in my thinking and reasoning!
