Daily Lessons from Life 26 June 2010 - Life in the fun lane

MALAYSIA - ASK anyone who's been to a Club Med and they will most likely say: 'The place was amazing but it's the GO (gentils organisateurs or gracious organisers) who really made it memorable.'

Indeed, the French-based resort chain is extremely proud of its GOs, who go all out to ensure guests, known as GMs (gentils membres or gracious members), have a good time, led by the chef de village or ringmaster."

These are some of the very luckly people who found a job that they enjoyed and loved! Great that some of them stayed on for a long long time while those who desired a short but interesting and enriching stint with Club Med, they will find it!

Lessons for me are:

1. any good job will involve giving of your best unreservedly. When you give unreservedly, the job will become interesting, even if it is NOT! Why? You make the best of the worst situations! Of course, if it is really bad, eventually you will leave for a much better place as you had overcome the worst situation!;

2. working and serving guests or Gracious Members (GMs) as Club Med believed their guests are, just like their GOs, mean both will find it rewarding and enriching to serve and be served. It is the perfect match. At the same time, the GOs will never put themselves as equal to the GMs as they need to be above them to take some emotional outbursts by the GMs as guests!;

3. the work environment obviously is not your usual offices for these GOs. It is another plus for people who enjoy the outdoors, fresh air, sea, sand and breeze! For those of us in the usual office setting, we need to make a conscious effort to get out there to refresh, relax and re-charge.

May Club Med continue to have great GOs and may they work happily with the GMs for a spiritually enlightening experience.
