Daily Lessons from Life 13-14 June 2010 - Misc

"Mon, Jun 14, 2010 The Straits Times Ex-ITE student picked for Harvard internship"

I missed the 13 June 2010 updates as I was simple just too tired. Or allowing the poor discipline to raise its head again! A classical example of someone fighting hard to keep from falling into ill discipline and bad habit again!

This piece of news is interesting in that it showcased a supposedly not very academically inclined ITE student getting an internship stint in the prestigious affiliate of the world renown Harvard Medical School.

Lessons for me are:

1. being in a prestigious university is helpful to open door, especially the 1st job or when you have no other connection. At the same time, it is not the end of the world as long as you know your stuffs! It is just a matter of time before you find your opportunity!;

2. in this story, one of the old boys of the Singapore Polytechnic is a research fellow there helped. So, know who is just as important as know how, even in supposedly straitlaced Singapore!;

3. when you are given the opportunity, it is up to you to make the best use of it. At the same time, there is no need to put undue pressure on yourself to excel. As long as you have done your best, it is good enough. In this case, you will have a balance view of the opportunity and get to enjoy the pleasure and the pressure!

May Mr. Poh continue the journey that he has created for himself and fulfill his calling of doing research in science!
