Daily Lesson from Life 27 January 2009

Nothing worthy on the News Headlines to comment on today! Maybe I did not look hard enough with all the foods I have consumed in the last 2 days!!

A little bit relax today maybe!

I like to report that I gained 3 kg in 2 days of eating excessively! This despite my jogging for 1.5 hours on Sunday night after the reunion dinner at my mum and 2nd brother's place!!

Lessons for me are:

1. it is very hard to lose weight and hang on to the holistic healthy lifestyle I purposefully developed since January 2008 as I successfully lost 13kg in 2008 in 3.5 months. I have since maintained a relatively consistent and discipline way of life on food and exercise. BUT in 2 days of eating excessively in the Lunar Chinese New Year, I gained 3 kg!! It shows that to be truthful and faithful to a new healthy habit is not easy! Everyone should be encouraged when they are keeping to a new healthy routine. When they do not backslide, they should be applauded!;

2. when we slipped, we must be aware. We are aware that we are slipping because we are vigilant in keeping watch over our new habit. As I weigh myself each day, I KNOW what is happening to my weight over the last 2 days! That means when you get data and facts, they do not tell lie. You do not have to make excuse like I looked fat or heavier. You ARE heavier when the weighing scale said so!! So, constant vigilance is important to help one maintain a good new healthy habit!;

3. taking actions after we found out we are backsliding! To become aware is fine. WHAT are we going to do about it is most critical! I cannot wish away the extra 3 kg gained! I resolved to take actions to correct this undesirable state of affairs with IMMEDIATE effect! i.e. a) back to NORMAL moderate meals starting tomorrow morning!; b) take a smaller portion of the meals for the next 3 days to compensate for the overeating; c) faithfully continue my twice a week more than 10km each jog (I did not wavered from this habit BUT still when you overeat, you do not burned enough if you just do the NORMAL jog!!);

It is fun to be able to enjoy the foods with family and relatives as foods are an important aspect of the Chinese culture. Hopefully, other family members and relatives who had also overeat will take immediate actions to right the excesses in the next few days like me! ;-)

Keep up the eat well and exercise regularly routine in the Year of the Ox!
