"Discrimination of healthcare workers due to coronavirus ‘disgraceful’: Amrin Amin
SINGAPORE: The discrimination of some healthcare workers due to suspicions of close contact with coronavirus cases is "disgraceful", Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs Amrin Amin has said.
“There's one issue that I would like to comment on, which is on discrimination faced by our healthcare officers,” he told reporters on Wednesday (Feb 12).
“We have read reports of nurses being asked not to take the lift, take the stairs instead. Nurses have been asked to leave the train ... Ambulance drivers being asked not to buy food, so as not to contaminate others," said Mr Amrin.
“These are very unfortunate incidents, and it's very disgraceful.”"
Mine oh mine. Seriously? I don't think it is "disgraceful". It is actually sad that people r so fearful despite so much information had been given to the public that transient contacts cannot infect the other person even if the healthcare personnel had been infected! Also, even if infected, a healthy person can, n do, recover fully with care n treatment.
On top of that, the healthcare personnel r unlikely to catch the virus as they r trained n would hv been very thorough with how they handle themselves.
If that is not reassuring enough, the healthcare personnel would hv been subjected to a daily barrages of health checks on n off their shifts!!
So, sad that the ignorant people r treating the healthcare personnel who r fighting the battle to heal infected patients like a plague to b avoided!
They ought to look into the mirrors n b ashamed of themselves. Such behaviours r worst that DISGRACEFUL!!
