"Minimal queues, thin crowds: First day of free mask collection largely proceeds without a hitch
SINGAPORE: When the Hougang Community Club opened its doors at 2pm on Saturday (Feb 1) for the first day of mask collection, there were as many volunteers waiting as there were residents in line.
“We had about 10 to 20 people in the queue in the first hour so we cleared that very fast,” said Community Club Management Committee chairman for Hougang SMC Joel Leong. “It was a very small queue ... We haven’t seen a big crowd (in the first two hours).”

Collection of the masks, which are free, is expected to be completed by Feb 9.
A total of 1,500 Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) personnel from Thursday packed 5.2 million surgical masks for distribution to the public."
Interesting indeed as there was no queue n no rush when scenes of people lining up to buy face masks appeared on media - main n online type - all over the places!
Maybe nobody bothered abt collect just 4 face masks even if they hv to pay jacked up prices for purchases made outside?
Maybe some, despite the efforts to distribute in locations as near as possible to their homes, still find it a chore or not cost-effective to collect the pack of 4-face masks?
Whatever the reasons, maybe the 2nd day tomorrow will hv more people turning up as it is better publicised with Day 1 collection on TVs?
It seems there r special effort to try to get these masks to the underprivileged who r more like to hv poor health, aged n vulnerable. Hope they will respond n come collect their 4 face masks!!
Notes: a good exercise on mobilizing the thousands of volunteers fr Team Nila though some said the PA n Grassroots folks hv excess manpower!
