Daily Lessons from Life 02 January 2020 - A Sgd 100m JC!!??

"New S$100m Eunoia JC campus is Singapore’s first ‘high-rise’ junior college

SINGAPORE: With their sleek green-tinted glass windows, expansive open spaces and greenery lining their walls, the two new towering blocks along Sin Ming Place could be mistaken for office buildings.

But they are not.

They form part of Eunoia Junior College's (EJC) new campus which boasts the tallest buildings among JCs in Singapore.

The campus was built upwards to compensate for the smaller four-hectare plot of land it sits on, compared to the six-hectare average plot size of other JCs. One of the academic blocks is 10-storeys high, the other reaches 12 storeys.

The Ministry of the Ministry of Education (MOE) said EJC cost S$100 million to construct. In its 2019 budget documents, the ministry said the total project cost for the development of the campus was estimated at almost S$144 million."

Maybe I m just a freaking poor guy who cannot possibly hv the imagination to conceive that a JC can b had at S$100m is a STEAL as it was budgeted at S$144m! MOE saved S$44m!! A bargain ya?

I hope this JC will turn out students that r not just known 4 the most expensive, for now (?!), JC in the world but truly WORLD BEATING local talents that create many 100m enterprises or discoveries or whatever justified the S$100m tag!!

For now I just want to know fr Factually.gov.sg:

1. How much was the last JC cost?;

2. What is the breakdown of this S$100m among: land cost, design cost n which architect or design firm?, equipment cost, annual maintenance, etc;

3. will the teachers b parking free of charge or the carpark operation has been outsourced so that the JC can hv a different revenue stream?

4. how does MOE intend to measure the ROI n report to the public over the next 4 yrs? After all, this 100m is fr taxpayer's money even though NRIC contributed more in the gov budget.

An aside Q: what is it abt the gov's fixation on building 5- or 6-star style/std gov buildings? e.g. stat board offices, hospitals, schools, etc.? Is it to boost the GDP growth so that"inappropriately set KPIs" r reached n folks get "performance bonuses"?? i hope NOT.

Pl enlighten us the public!!
