Daily Lessons from Life 29 October 2016 - President Park's folly! Singapore Entrepreneuer!

1. President Park is facing a public push-back on allowing her 'personal confidant' to influence her handling of state affairs and 'abusing' her influence!

I remembered writing to myself an open letter to President Obama when he became the 1st African American President to ask his family, relatives and friends to help him to stay clean and impartial by avoiding to ask him for any favour - legitimate or otherwise - so that his Presidency will be untainted and he is able to truly SERVE the American people!

It would have been good practice for President Park to do the same. Alas, someone will surely tell me that I had been too naïve and that it is IMPOSSIBLE to guard against human nature to 'help your loved or close ones'!

Maybe I was naïve. Yet, when I read up histories of human kind, those who truly won admiration from many other human beings are often those who were able to realise the need to guard against one's corrupt human nature and did the 'inhuman task' of being self-less, righteous and steadfast.

I rather be naïve than to be told human is doomed to fall prey to its 'humanity'!!

2. "The chairman and CEO of Futuristic Store Fixtures was recently named EY (Ernst and Young) Entrepreneur Of The Year Singapore. - CNA 29 Oct 2016

How many times have I read about 'successful people' in Singapore and they ALL seemed to define their success with MATERIAL wealth!!

This Entrepreneur of the Year way of 'motivating' himself to be successful is:

"I would see my neighbour who is a businessman driving a nice Porsche and I remember saying to myself: “Hey David, one day you should own that car too.” I wanted progress in my life and business would be a good way to achieve that."

LOL!!

While I am NO entrepreneur, I DO KNOW that an entrepreneur is someone who:

a. simply like to do business and make money along the way. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, perfectly a good way to 'motivate' oneself. So, what was expressed by Mr David Low is honest. A good way to start. Hopefully after that, it will change to 'creating employment and opportunities' for others to helping the less fortunate or something. Of course, not every successful entrepreneur needs to be charitable. Just more will be helpful than less. Yes?;

b. may be perceived as unscrupulous and will beg, borrow and even steal if need be, to survive a cash flow crisis and live to fight another day. Again, hopefully those will be the exception than the norm. In life, sometimes you run out of cash when you are at the cusp of a breakthrough. Those who provided cash at that moment in time should be rewarded handsomely and generously. Hope the 'live to fight another day successful entrepreneur' can remember these 'good and generous people'!;

c. whatever it maybe, at the end of the day, it is about someone buying your products/services/solutions at a price that you can make money after deducting your expenses and costs. How you get it does not really matter at the start. A favour extended by someone will be taken gladly. Through your skilful application of enterprises knowledges like: publicity/promotion, distribution/place, digital marketing, community building, online forum, etc, etc. you get paying customers and you get supportive profit seeking bankers/investors/vendors to support you.

Next come systemisation, processes implementation, etc. to create sustainability and pushing the raw creativity and drive of 'all in the head of the boss' approach down the importance ladder.

That would be the ultimate for a true entrepreneur - a thriving enterprise without the founder(s)!
