Interesting to learn that the ever present medallist, Ms Feng, has been left out of the Singapore national table tennis team as the SSTA unveiled it strategic plan for Tokyo2020 and beyond!
It is placing its hope on the 20= players instead of Ms Feng who is 34 years old now. A sensible move. Necessary and bold.
The immediate attention of most Singaporeans will be if Ms Feng will retire in Singapore or go back to PRC where she originally hailed from.
I hope she will stay and help develop and train the next generation of female players to be as good as she was/is. Much like the male player, Gao Ning, who had been offered an assistant coach/player role.
Maybe Ms Feng is not interested in coaching. In which case, one can understand the move initiated.
Will we have locally born and bred table tennis players of Ms Feng's level? I hope so. I wonder whatever happened the Isabelle, who was once touted as the best locally born player that can compete at the world stage holding her own?
Whatever it is, it is a bold plan. Hopefully it will bring more sporting glory to Singapore as one of the male table tennis players assist the CPIB in an investigation.
