Daily Lessons from Life 17 February 2013 - Various ...

1. 'Blade Runner' saga

What a twist to the 'girlfriend killed by being mistaken as an intruder' on Valentine Day to 'possible pre-meditated murder with extreme violence'!!

Facts are stranger than fictions really.

Another 'celebrity' sad and tragic inability to behave?

Condolences to the victim and may justice be done IF he is guilty.

2. Ex-PM/SM/MM Lee being discharged and resting at home after a mini-stroke

89-year old founder of modern Singapore is tireless in his quest to transform Singapore from a poor outpost to a wealthy nation that 'punch way above its weight'. Yet, the last 10 years cannot be pleasing to him despite of ALL the successes and material achievements his beloved Singapore had accomplished.

I wish him well and for me his first 3/4 of his political career and national leadership is impeccable. Of course, I will never fail to mention that he has a great team of 1st general leaders, and more important, Singaporeans who rolled with the punches and worked together with the national leaders to create this miracle! Yet, his last 1/4 to-date of work has not been stellar. In fact, some fundamental weaknesses were observed: the failure to change MINDSET of Singaporeans e.g. gracefulness will not be in his lifetime, insistent that 'high pay for talent to prevent corruption' without realizing that 'high pay' may entice people in power to cling to keeping their positions for the 'high pay' and not consider good significant changes, allowing private tuition to 'complement' the supposedly world class educational system while NOT reflecting deeply on 'why are the 9 foreign Chamber of Commerce' petitioning the the government must not close the door on FAKE FTs because our World Class Educational System CANNOT produce the talents that they need?, etc;

3. the COMPETENCE of some of Singapore Law Enforcement Agencies in doubt?

The high profile CPIB case against the ex-Director of NCB that resulted in an acquittal. The parents of an American engineer's suicide claiming that SPF did not do a good job in the investigation into his supposedly suicide case, which SPF denied.

These, while not conclusive, cases or allegations pointed to not so nice picture of the once armour-proof rock solid reputation of: 'Once CPIB is onto you, you MUST be corrupt and guilty of the crime!' been weakened. Hopefully, these are just aberrations. An anomaly and NOT the norm.

Another week will begin. Let's look for more positive news to comment on ...
