Daily Lessons from Life 17 January 2013 - Obama's Gun Controls Initiatives

"Lance Armstrong's 'confession'" or "Obama's Gun Controls Initiative" or "Threats to Kenneth J's (by-election candidate) wife and son in London"?

Lance's story is 'sensational' and 'selfish' as it is a so-called 'exclusive scoop' by another larger-than-life figure, Oprah. So, I will leave it as the 'sensationalism' will sell itself. Is Lance's truly repentant? If he confessed, he will be trilby ruined - with law suits, further interrogation and a lot more humiliation in public. Hope he is up to it!!

Threats to Kenneth J's wife and son - trying to 'sensationalise' the by-election? At best an unhelpfull distraction in normally scandal free election process in Singapore. So, I will leave this one too!

That leaves me with the REAL deal: Obama's Gun Controls Initiative!

I watched him on TV announcing the measures, in the presence of some of the parents and children of the Sandy Hook's shooting incident. I read the news headline that in Congress, there were tears as they recalled the massacre.

I ALSO watched on the same TV News program a TV advertisement that the gun lobby group with 4.5m members called 'National Riffles Association' put up. A TV advertisement with the theme: Obama's kids are protected by armed guards BUT he does not want ARMED GUARDS for the other children of Americans!

I also read that the NRA came up with a mobile game application that allows people to 'kill as many objects? as possible in the shortest time' and get POSTED on a national ranking!!

Lessons for me are:

1. President Obama is doing the RIGHT THING! He warned that the pro-gun lobbyists will do ALL the can to stop this law from being passed. The laws makers must touch their conscience when they vote against it;

2. the NRA are SHAMELESSLY arguing for the safety of the 'other children of Americans' when they are REALLY interested in protecting their moneyed friends who manufacture and sell military assault type weapons that ORDINARY Cowboys from the OLD Wild Wild West will NOT need to hunt or to protect themselves from potential robbers or randomly killers in a school!! More hypocrisy??!!;

3. alas, it is fair game for the NRA to air such biased advertisement as it is 'freedomof speech'. The measure of a truly civilized and advance society will be if the majority of its people can discern between the good and the bad points of view!!

May Americans decide well. May the 4.5m understands the 200+m don't need to have powerful guns to feel secured or powerful!! Could the majority be right this time?
