Daily Lessons from Life 03 January 2013 - Suspected drink driver rams into 10 cars

"Suspected drink driver rams into 10 cars in Potong Pasir - AsiaOne 3 January 2013

SINGAPORE - A driver believed to be intoxicated rammed into 10 parked cars in a HDB carpark in Potong Pasir early this morning, before falling asleep at the wheel, the Shin Min Daily News reported.

The incident happened at about 2.30 am at the car park of blocks 137 and 138 of Potong Pasir Ave 3.

According to the Chinese evening daily, the man had earlier drove his car up a kerb and struck a lamp-post before speeding away.

But he returned 30 minutes later, after realising that his license plate and bumper had fallen off because of the impact.

Said an eyewitness, Mr Wu, 40: "The driver wanted to park his car in a lot, but I don't know how he ended up hitting 7 cars in the process." In an attempt to get away, Mr Wu said the driver knocked into 3 other parked cars.

The driver's car ended up wedged in between 2 cars.

According to another eye-witness, Mr Tan, 35, the man then got out and pushed the car in a bid to free it.

When that failed, he returned to the car and subsequently fell asleep at the wheel, said Mr Tan.

Mr Tan added that the police and officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived shortly after."

Something lighthearted for a change since in this 'accident' nobody was hurt except some physical damages to things!

Lessons for me are:

1. fact is stranger than fiction. The fact that the suspected 'intoxicated' driver CAME BACK after 30 minutes to try to drive away or park his car are strange but his subsequent falling asleep at the wheels took the cake!! LOL!!!;

2. it also showed that you are NOT safe even in your own car park as you never know which idiotic driver who could not handle his or her drink will be returning home to your car park! He could have killed someone without even knowing it!!;

3. while this incident is quite comical saved for the owners of those cars that were innocently bashed up by this suspected drunk driver, his behaviors is a big threat to public road safety, users and drivers. He, I submit, if found to be really drunk, should get his just punishment severely.

No complaints given that he lived to face the music and take responsibility for his foolishness or gung-ho-ness!!

If you drink, STOP driving. Or: If you drink, take a cab or a bus or a train or walk with someone besides you as you may not know where the hell you are going!!
