"AFP Tuesday, Apr 24, 2012 - What PM Has for Dinner
SINGAPORE - Less than a week after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong launched his Facebook page, Singaporeans now know what their leader eats for dinner: rice, soup, a couple of simple dishes and lots of fruit.
Lee, 60, disclosed the menu in a post on Monday, responding to requests on his Facebook page, which he launched on Friday in a bid to connect with citizens who have increasingly vented their frustrations on social media."
It is a good effort by PM Lee to reach out to the people of Singapore. I am glad that he mentioned his simple dinner. Once again validating my contention that PM Lee and his super-achieving family members should at least try to set the quality of simple living for Singaporeans in the top echelon of the country!!
Lessons for me are:
1. you do not need to be eating abalones, lobsters and what-have-you even when you are the most powerful man in the country!!;
2. if the most powerful man in the country is happy with a simple dinner that is rich in nutrition, easy on the pocket, why should it NOT be the National Standard? At least those relatively 'poor' Singaporeans can appreciate that their simple meals are as good as the PM of the country!! :-);
3. PM Lee also has a chance to show that with such a simple lifestyle, there is REALLY NO need for a multi-million dollar pay package -fixed salary plus variable performance bonuses. I am NOT saying this REALIZATION be legislated. But just by the PM talking about it, promulgating it, sharing it, it will have SOME influence on the mindset of the young and upcoming Singapore talents. They know they can make big money if they enter politics to serve the people but they DO NOT need that kind of money if they can enjoy a simple dinner. They KNOW what is enough rather than it is not enough!!
May the PM catches my drift, which I had been sharing at everyone opportunity available!
