WASHINGTON: A strong 6.2-magnitude followed by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Mexico's Pacific coast early Thursday, according to the US Geological Survey, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The US National Weather Service issued a notice saying it does not expect any damaging tsunami along the US west coast.

There has been a series of recent tremors in the region.

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck southwest Mexico on March 20, killing two people, injuring 13 others and damaging thousands of homes.

That earthquake -- with its epicentre south of the Pacific resort of Acapulco -- was the most powerful to hit the country since one in 1985, which destroyed entire neighborhoods of the capital and killed thousands.

Residents of Mexico's crowded capital -- home to more than 20 million people -- are all too familiar with seismic activity and have grown used to evacuation drills.

The city government recently introduced an earthquake warning app for BlackBerry cell phones and plans to install public speakers to broadcast alarms."

It is undeniable that we seem to have MORE reported earthquakes AROUND the world these days. Also, the magnitude seems to be on higher and higher scales. Witnessed the 8+ magnitude quakes that hit Sumatra 2 days ago and felt in certain parts of Singapore!

Lessons for me are:

1. is it really the beginning of the end of earth as we know it?;

2. if so what is my responses? Well, being not a religious person, I actually feel that it is an honor to be witnessing the end of the world as have been predicted for so long. As to 'afterlife', I am not concerned about it as my philosophy has always being: live well, do good TODAY and everyday if you can. The rest will be taken care of by the Creator if he, she or it is any good, he/she/it will take care of the afterlife!!;

3. but more down to earth, another fearful scenario to picture what would happen when the BIG ONE hits Mexico, a city of 20m!!, after thinking about what would happen in Tokyo, San Franscico and other Megacities in Asia!! It will be HELL on earth for sure.

May Mother Earth continue to survive all these earthquakes around its body. IF human kind really can do something to slow or even revert it, may the scientists who are NOT interested in commercialism find a way and may some of the RICHEST people in the world with the GREATEST influence listen to them and bring Mother Earth back to safety! Hopefully it is not too late. Until then, I will continue with me: live well, do good TODAY and everyday if I can!!
