The move to seek the extradition of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was proceeding at snail's pace through the Thai bureaucracy yesterday even as he was about to land in Phnom Penh for his first lecture on economic matters on Thursday.


Although Cambodia has vowed to throw out any extradition request, Bangkok seems determined to test that resolve.

Thailand and Cambodia signed an extradition treaty in 1998, but Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has said he will not extradite Thaksin to Thailand, because the treaty prohibits sending anyone to face punishment for a political offence. Thaksin was appointed Hun Sen's economic adviser and is scheduled to give a lecture in Phnom Penh on Thursday. The neighbours have already been at loggerheads over the Preah Vihear Temple since last year.The two countries have downgraded their diplomatic relations, and Thailand has terminated a maritime memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed during Thaksin's administration in 2001."

Well, Thaksin is really an influential person! Hen Sen is a buddy of Thaksin, supposedly. This make the plot thickened with potential for neighbourly WAR?

Lessons for me are:

1. with lots of money, you can do a lot of things on this world. At the same time ask yourself if you are doing it for yourself or for the greater good of the majority of people? This is critical as it makes one conscious of what money CANNOT buy!!;

2. some politicians cannot stand the silence of the night because they need attention on themselves or to divert attention from pressing issues of incompetency or corruption, etc;

3. when one plays with fire, like what Thaksin & Hen Sun are doing here. We better be prepared to put out the fire as some get the fire out-of-control!! So, this is a bit drastic. The supporters of Thakin may not like him cuddling up to the Cambodian and hence, caused Thaksin to lose some supports!

May Thaksin reconcile with his government and the people ONE DAY!!
