Daily Lessons from Life 10 June 2009

Nothing significant to comment on today as I just seemed to be in a writer's block! So I will do what is very unnatural for me tonight. I will leave the daily blog for today fairly bare!

Just a few quotes to share:

1. To develop into a person with good characteristics we must:
- do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto to!;

2. To influence the motivation of others, we must:
- do unto others what they desired (within the boundary of legal and ethical considerations!);

3. To exercise self-control when we are angry or agitated or frustrated with people or things:
- If we are right, we don't have to be angry. But if we are wrong, we have no right to be angry!;
- Take a deep breath and count to 10 before you say anything!;
- Walk away from the 'scene of crime' for at least 10 seconds. e.g. go make a cup of coffee or tea;
- Bite your tongue and do not say anything for 10 seconds!;
- If you are writing an angry reply or email, save it on draft and read it an hour later before deciding if you want to mail or send it out or not!;

4. As leader, we want commitment instead of compliance from our people as:
- Compliance = Doing the Right Things when SOMEONE is watching, while
- Commitment = Doing the Right Things when NO ONE is watching!

5. In time of adversity,
- the tough get going when the going get tough;
- it is not how you start the race but how you end it that matter!;
- life is a journey with many ups and downs and twists and turns and all of us, no matter how rich or famous or otherwise, come to the same destination. So, enjoy the sights, sounds, smell, taste, touch, and the sixth sense along the journey!
