No News Headline to comment to day.
Today is June the 4th 2009, the 20th anniversary of the infamous Tiananmen Incident in Beijing, PRC, where supposedly pro-democracy students and protesters were killed and hurt by the use of force by the army and authority to clear them out and stopped the unrest.
No one will ever know if that is the right decision or not. No one can really tell you if that unrest was not cleared, what would China be today? Will it be a more democratic society longed by the Western liberals but in total chaos and ruin feared by the conservative Chinese leadership and the last thing any ordinary Chinese citizen want to face?
For me the lessons learned are:
1. only time will judge history if the decision we made as leaders at a particular moment in time if it was the right or wrong decision;
2. the likeliest conclusion will be: mixed and depending on who are 'judging' your decision. Probably tempered with the consequence of your decision. Like in this case, for those in favor of stability and economic progresses, the suppression of the unrest 20 years ago will be viewed as necessary though unfortunate due to loss of lives. For those who are extremely liberals and emotional, the suppressing of the unrest with brutal and fatal force was totally unacceptable!;
3. if we can look back and learn and apply the learning going forward, then it will be most productive. Of course, it will be better if we manage and lead our people in such a way that there is no reason for anyone or too many of them to feel that need to protest in number and to force change. If the leaders are doing the right things, the people will be at peace and will have no desire to risk their lives and limps to try to induce changes that will make their lives better!
May those who were 'sacrificed' find their peace in the next world while those whole survived to tell the tales or those who have lost dear ones carry on with life as best as possible. Life goes on! Look forward to make thing better!
