Daily Lessons from Life 16 February 2012 - Basketball: 'Linsanity' continues as Knicks record 7th straight win

"Basketball: 'Linsanity' continues as Knicks record 7th straight win - AFP 16 Feb 2012

NEW YORK: Jeremy Lin ignited a balanced New York attack with a career-high 13 assists as the Knicks stretched their NBA win streak to seven games on Wednesday with a 100-85 victory over Sacramento.

"Linsanity" continued at Madison Square Garden as Lin, the first US-born NBA player of Taiwanese and Chinese heritage, continued a magical run that has seen him rise from the Knicks bench to become a global sensation.

"I just tried to move the ball around. When we have guys like Amare and Landry, I just throw the ball up and they go and get it. They make me look good."

Lin, a Harvard University economics graduate, was cut by Golden State and Houston last December before being picked up by the Knicks.

Lin averaged 23.3 points and 7.4 assists in his first five games, the top scoring total by any player since 1976 in his first five starts, a run to outdo such stars as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal.

"All of a sudden, this young kid comes in and there's life inside the Garden," said Knicks big man Tyson Chandler. "He is the most humble kid in the world and everybody is excited to play with him.""

Well, I finally have to write about this young man!

Lessons for me are:

1. opportunities come for everyone once in a while but the one who are ready for it makes the most impact. Lin definitely has optimize the opportunity excellently. His statistics are simply amazing beating out such phenomenal players like MJ, Kobe, James, and Shaq! Nobody can take it away from him! It is fact and fast become legend!;

2. I watched the interviews he had a few times and he sounded so humble (and acknowledged or recognized by others) and really enjoying himself and crediting his teammates for his success. This is the characteristics of an player with intelligence and sustainability. Anyone who is full of himself or herself when instant success struck normally falls like a meteor across the sky. Blazing a trail but turned off in seconds! This humility and the attitude to keep improving will stand him in good stead;

3. may his star shines brightly as he brought a new dimension to Americanness really. A rising USA born NBA star with Taiwanese and Chinese ancestry! President Obama will do well to 'cash' in on Lin to show the 'greatness' of the USA. The land of opportunities and justice for all!

He is fully aware of his destiny. He is enjoying himself. He is grateful. I hope he will continue to shine with this NBA game. So that he can set an example that sometimes nice guy comes in 1st!
