Daily Lessons from Life 25 September 2010 - Not much excitement for this year’s F1 S’pore Grand Prix

Yahoo! Singapore's blog: 25 September 2010 - Not much excitement for this year’s F1 S’pore Grand Prix

""No big deal to me”. That sums up the sentiments of Yahoo! Answers users who said that they are not that interested in the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix race to be held this weekend.

A total of 66 users responded to the question, “How excited are you about this year’s Formula One Singapore Grand Prix race?”, and judging from their responses, it seems that many are not keen on the race.

Some Yahoo! Answers users’ commented that the road blockages were a major inconvenience to them. They were referring to several roads around the Marina Bay area closed since Wednesday to prepare for the race."

Well, the good thing is that this is only the responses form 66 users instead of 4.6k or 66k! Otherwise, the people behind this multi-million multi-year project in Singapore will be very disappointed and angry!! The marketing folks are telling the organizers, the sponsors, the government that had put in a lot of money and support, and the F1 fraternity that it is a gigantic success in attracting fans and paying tourists from all over the world! It CANNOT be a BIG FLOP!! Not Nobody care but EVERYONE care and love F1!!

Lessons for me are:

1. I am not a F1 fan as I don't care for the noises, the eco-unfriendliness, the pretentious self-importance of the ring-master and the whole F1 sports though I acknowledged that the investment in technologies is huge and do yield some useful application for the normal day motor vehicles;

2. it is obvious that F1 is a favoured sports for the rich and famous and, of course, the envious wannabe! This year additional efforts of augmenting the F1 with renowned artists like Mariah Carey, Adam Lambert, etc to generate MORE excitement and glamour also tells how desperate that the organizers are really trying to get the appropriate Return on Investment (ROI)!!;

3. perhaps the relatively few patrons and fans of the F1 will OUT-SPEND the rest of the targeted audience by a 1000 or 10k time to make the ROI respectable. So that the justification of why the show must go on can be presented to these 66 Yahoo Survey users to tell them WHY THEY WERE SO WRONG about F!! :-)

For the sake of Singapore, and I don't care much for the F1 circuit, this thing better make money for Singapore as the government has put in a lot of money on it. The credibility of the government, if you like, is on the line too; what with the the big hoo-ha about the over-budgeted YOG in Singapore!
